Description
The Snow White Bristlenose Pleco (Ancistrus sp.) is a selectively line-bred,solid cfreamy-white freshwater catfish reaching 10to15 cm in lenght, Â prized in the aquarium hobby for its peaceful nature, distinct white body, and algae-grazing habits.
Physical Traits & Care Requirements
- Size: Grows up to 12–15 cm as an adult. Available in short-fin and flowing long-fin varieties.
- Temperature: 22–27°C (some breeders suggest keeping them under 26°C as they can be slightly more sensitive at higher heats).
- Water pH: 6.0 to 7.5 (tolerates 5.5 to 8.0).
- Minimum Tank Size: 80 to 90 litres (20+ gallons) for a single adult.
- Temperament: Peaceful bottom-dweller; safe with live plants and calm community fish.
Habitat & Diet
- Tank Setup: Needs driftwood for grazing and digestion, alongside caves or dark hiding spots.
- Diet: Omnivorous biofilm and algae eater. Supplement with sinking algae wafers, spirulina, and blanched vegetables like courgette (zucchini) or cucumber.
