Description
The Morse Code Tetra (Hemigrammus sp. “Morse Code”) is a tiny, rare freshwater fish from Peru named for the distinct pattern of dots and dashes along its body that looks like Morse code.
Fish Profile and Appearance
- Size: Very small, growing only up to 2 to 2.5 cm (about 1 inch) long.
- Body: Translucent with a shimmering gold or silver tint on the face and belly.
- Markings: Dashed dark lines running horizontally along the flanks resembling telegraph codes.
- Status: Scientifically undescribed yet in an official genus, sometimes grouped near Hemigrammus or Aphyoditeinae.
Tank Care and Requirements
- Tank Size: Nano tanks starting at 10 gallons work well due to their tiny size.
- Behavior: Calm and very peaceful; they love to hover quietly near peers with tilted heads.
- Group: Keep in a school of at least 5 to 6 individuals to help them feel secure.
- Setup: Prefers a well-planted aquarium with gentle flow and peaceful tank mates.
